The website of Los Angeles based photographer Moni Hayworth is the kind where you end up hypnotically clicking through page after page of her work, relinquishing any concern of having been there for way too long. Her “lo-fi” short stories focus on the raw, wild characters behind Los Angeles’ youth and fill a void for street style inspiration that is truly authentic- the kind of stuff that just can’t be copied. Her vision reminds me of old Patti Smith/ Robert Mapplethorpe photos from inside their clinton Hill apartment, unpretentious and unpretending of being anything other than “exactly who they were”. Visit her site, Johnny’s Bird, here.
have been doing a bit of comp-grinding lately and this has been a great backgroound. Sit back and enjoy 1hr of heavy trippy s#*t by some mental dudes in a stoney place that was blasted and frozen in time by a volcano god. far out. .
November means it’s basketball season once again and the unmistakable voice of Bill Walton on television. In his day, Walton always stood out on the court, but I had no idea he was so hip away from the game as well!
Recently I came across a great photo set on Cold Splinters, showing the more adventurous side of Bill Walton. His vintage camping gear, hiking boots and Grateful Dead shirt would right into any number of look books and style editorials this fall. Same as it ever was. I hope Walton still has that shirt in the back of his closet.
There’s a lot of really good things going on here. From creating dyes from seed to embracing the limitations and imperfections of using found materials, there’s a full and very satisfying spectrum that goes into Maura Ambrose’s work. Above all, it’s inspiring to the rest of us who strive to find a similar quality in our own work.
Jay Caroll captured it wonderfully as part of his Made Here video series.
C215′s creations during his most recent trip to London. C215 often hailed as “France’s answer to Banksy”, really has developed a very distinctive style that deserves recognition away from such comparisons.
I can always point out the year I fell in love with snowboarding by recalling the release of The Program’s “Forum or Against’em”. No I haven’t been at this sport for long, but watching that film from a cramped couch, inside a Mammoth A-frame shack is my ingrained memory of realizing just how much fun I was about to get myself into. The release of the brand’s 2012/2013 team movie unveils their final act as one that does not disappoint; Featuring riders Andreas Wiig, Pat Moore, Jake Welch, Nic Sauve, Austen Sweetin, Cam Pierce, Daniel Ek, and Mario Kaeppeli !
