I know that I am a little late on this, but I was just made aware of the photographer Taryn Simon and her work. Since i’ve previously posted about James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 this post seems like a good follow-up.
Two years ago Taryn sat out to photograph every actress who appeared as a Bond girl starting with Ursula Andrews of Dr. No. In October 2013 her latest project “Birds of the West Indies” came together and was displayed at Carnegie Museum of art. It portrays a series of pictures of femme fatales, weapons and cars that have accessorized James Bond films for the past five decades. The NY times has a good slideshow of some of the pictures here for those who are interested.
The name of the project is taken from taxonomy of birds in the Caribbean written by James Bond, the name of the author which Ian Fleming appropriated for his stories.
A short film collaboration combining director Wes Anderson’s cult and quirky film making with iconic Italian Fashion label Prada, entitled, Castello Cavalcanti. A nostalgic American take on old italy including car races (and crashes), a Prada sponsored jumpsuit, spaghetti and la familia.
For those who’ve seen Ron Howard’s Rush and or are just fans of fast speeds and even faster women, enjoy this in depth look into the lives of James Hunt And Barry Sheene. Fueled by more than just octane, the two both had the adrenaline dreams of being world champion and the extravagant lifestyle that came with it.
Burton’s four-part web series, kicks off today with the release of the first episode, BACKCOUNTRY. This episode takes you deep into the mountains of British Columbia, the Pacific Northwest, Switzerland, and beyond. Featuring the riding of Jussi Oksanen, Terje Haakonsen, Jeremy Jones, Nicolas Müller, Mikey Rencz, and Mark Sollors, BACKCOUNTRY highlights heavy riding on massive cheesewedges, natural big mountain lines, hairy cliff drops, and soft landings. If this is an indication of what’s to come for the rest of the series, we are all in for a treat.
