INKLING BY WACOM

What do you buy an artist for Christmas?

Meet the Inkling by WACOM, which brings designers back to their roots: drawing with pen and paper.

The Inkling is a digital sketch pen and receiver; sketch, and your lines will be translated into an illustration on your computer. You don’t need special paper to record your drawings; you can attach the Inkling’s receiver to any paper surface and scribble away. If that weren’t enough, you can create multiple “layers” while you sketch; when you import your sketches, these will translate into layered files in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. Best part is the price at only $199. Available mid-September at Amazon.com.

Movement is Everything

I came across these amazing little vacuum motors by Boehm Stirling the other day and was mesmerized by the craftsmanship and impressive functionality. The principle behind the Stirling motor dates back 2000 years to the ancient Egypt, and is quite simple. A burner filled with fuel heats the air inside a cylinder and thereby purveys energy to the motor that activates through piecing of the flywheels. Check out all their desk size engines here.

L.A. Light

A pretty amazing time-lapse video made by Colin Rich, in his words:
“I sought out to capture the electric radiance of Los Angeles at night. It took me 6 months of on and off shooting to finish this project and I’ve learned a couple things along the way. First off, LA might be the entertainment capital of the world, but it sure is difficult to shoot around downtown without having homeland security officers, police, or security take notice and harass you. Know your shooting rights!”

MARCH LA.B Process

Producing an high-end  timepiece can be a grueling process, 2 years of work and hard labor. The process is surely not limited to the design and creative aspect, the final product only happens with the dedication of numerous people from engineers, factory manager, seamstresses, prototypist, quality expert, watchmaker….. Myself and “El Presidente” Mr Alain Marhic himself visited Switzerland 2 weeks ago to round up production issues before the summer break and I am always bewildered by the number of person and hands  it takes to make a timepiece happen….

Visiting a factory is a good reminder of the dedication of all those artisans to quality and impeccable production, we are grateful to work with such talented crafstman.

Here are a couple of photos of our trip and of the people and personalities behind the fantastic swiss made label…..

Enjoy.

All photos by the ever talented Dimitri Coste…..
